Going to Helm’s Deep
I was walking through a beautiful field when I saw someone coming! It was my old friend Nimploth!! “Inwë!!!” she yelled. “What are you doing here?” I asked. “My whole family is here, we had to come, but I don’t know why!” She had an embarrassed look on her face. Then her brother, Sielbeth, came running. “We have to go, quick!” We ran to the village . Uruks were destroying our village! “Oh, no!! I cried I saw our families running and crying to us!
A man on a horse came near us. It was Eomer, a warrior of Rohan! He said, “We must make hast, we have to go to Helm’s Deep!”
We started on our long journey right away. Some were wounded, crying from the pain. Children were running around playing and some were crying because of leaving their homes.
For what seemed a long journey now it seemed like just a foot away. There it was, Helm’s Deep!! We started to the open gate. But then Eomer stepped in front of us. “When all of you come in, go to any part that is open, now come!”
We all went in. There were so many families from villages far from here and villages in Helm’s Deep. Just then, Theóden, King of Rohan, came riding in on his beautiful horse. We were standing there, so very still, staring at him in awe.
After him were some of the warriors. But after them was a man and an Elf with a Dwarf behind him. They were all on horses. I was talking to Nimploth when I saw the Dwarf walking around. I asked him, “What are we doing here?” He said, “ There is going to be a war, the last war-” Then the Elf cut in. “ Gimli, what are you doing!?” “I was just talking to these young women!” “Hello!!”, I said. The Elf said, “Suilaid, I am Legolas, son of Thranduil, and this is Gimli, son of Gloin.” “Hello!”, Gimli said.
“Aragorn!”, Legolas said. The man we saw coming in earlier was walking to us. “What are you two doing?”, he said. “We’re just talking to these young women!”, Gimli said. Legolas nodded. “Well, have you seen Eowyn anywhere?”, Aragorn asked. “Here I am!” She said, “Hello, how are you two?” “I’m fine, except for what’s going on!”, I said. She was beautiful and she had a beautiful voice! She said, “Good, I’m glad you feel better than I do about all of this.” I just stared at her. She seemed really nice and all but she surely wasn’t more scared than I was. My heart was beating so hard and fast and could feel it and I had butterflies flying in my stomach!
After we were done talking and they left, me and Nimploth looked around. We saw so many people hurt and saying they hoped they died before the war started! It was so sad, I almost cried, I had to get out!
King Theóden then said, “We shall go to the caves!!” We all walked to the caves. Gimli was looking for me. “Hello, you never told me your name!” I said, “My name is Inwë!” He said, “Well, hello Inwë!!!” “Hello.”, I said. He left and he told Legolas something, but I couldn’t hear what.
When we got in the caves some people were saying the war would start when everybody got in. I was so scared.
But the really scary part was they didn’t have enough warriors. They took my brother, Aratfalasion, and my father, Oroberaidion. I started crying hard! What if they got killed? What if an Uruk took them away? My mom started to comfort me but I ran away.
After I ran for about 10 minutes I saw my friends Thaliur and Nurvilyaion. “Hello!!”, I said to them in delight. “Hello Inwë!”, they said together at the same time. Thaliur asked, “How are you in these terrible times?” I replied, “They took away my brother and father!” I cried a little. Nurvilyaion came to comfort me. “It’s okay, our brothers and fathers were taken away too.”
We all started walking around. I found Nimploth! “My brother and father were taken away!!”, she cried. I said, “Mine were too, but it’ll be alright. Come and walk with us.” She did.
We saw so many mothers and sisters and little brothers crying and I started again. I couldn’t stop. So we walked some more.
After about an hour it started. We heard something out there! It sounded like bounding or beating. It scared all of us. The little children, the babies, and me!
Then it stopped suddenly! We all looked up. Then we heard it really start! We heard something on the walls. It made us all jump.
Then we all just heard the screaming from the Uruks and yelling from the men and Elves. Me and all of my friends sat and listened in terror. A little child asked her mother, “When is it going to stop? Are we going to die??” I almost cried again.
After another hour it was still going on. We were all so scared. Just then we heard a wall explosion. It sounded like a wall exploded. We all jumped off the ground.
10 minutes later Eomer came down and told us go through the mountains. So we started on our way.
Finally, we were out of the mountain. But we didn’t hear the war going on! So we walked around the mountain. All the Uruks were dead!!!! Gandalf the White was there! He had Shadowfax as his horse too. Once again, I was standing in awe! Shadowfax was Lord of all Horses and he was there, right in front of me!
The sun started to rise and it was a beautiful sunrise!! Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn came up to us, me and my friends, and Gimli said, “Are you alright???” I said, “Yes we’re fine!!!” Then Legolas came up to me and said, “ Suilaid Inwë! I hear that your father and brother were taken away.” “Yes.” “Well.” I saw my brother and father running to me!!! “DADDY!!!, BROTHER!!!” I hugged them so hard I felt like I’d never let go!
Then King Theóden said, “We may go to Rohan now, it will be safe there.” And we were all started walking to Rohan. Another long journey!!
